How It Works

Train Hard, Without The Pain.

Old back injury. Cranky knees. Scared to lift heavy in case something "goes." Every programme starts with a real mobility assessment, so we build around what your body can actually do - and get you stronger without making anything worse.

You Want To Train Hard - Your Body Has Other Ideas

Most people who come to us with pain or an old injury have heard some version of the same thing before:

Your lower back "goes" bending down, lifting shopping, or after sitting at a desk all day.
Your knees ache on stairs, on a run, or after squats - so you've quietly stopped doing both.
You're scared to train hard in case you tweak something and lose weeks of progress again.
A gym once told you to "just push through it" - so you gave up on training altogether.
The Approach

How We Keep You Training, Not Sidelined

Pain and old injuries aren't a reason to stop training - they're information. Here's how that changes what we actually do with you.

🔎

Movement Screening First

Before a single exercise is chosen, we assess how you actually move - so we know exactly what to build around, not guess.

🧩

Pain Is Investigated, Not Ignored

"Just push through it" isn't coaching. We find the movement or imbalance behind the pain and train around it properly.

📉

Regressions Before Progressions

Every exercise has an easier, joint-friendly version. We start where your body is ready, not where your ego wants to be.

🧱

Core Strength Before Load

A strong, stable core protects your back and knees under load - so it's built in early, not bolted on later.

🗂️

Built Around Old Injuries

Bad shoulder, dodgy knee, hypermobility - tell us what's happened before and every session is programmed around it.

📈

Progressive Reintroduction

As pain settles and control improves, load and difficulty go up gradually and safely - never all at once.

The Two Most Common Complaints

Lower Back Pain & Knee Pain, Solved Properly

These two show up more than anything else - here's what actually helps, and what we build into your programme.

😖 Lower Back Pain

  • Usually comes from a stiff upper back or hips forcing your lower back to do work it isn't built for
  • We build hip hinge patterns (like a proper deadlift set-up) so lifting anything - a kettlebell or a shopping bag - doesn't rely on your spine
  • Core bracing drills (dead bugs, bird dogs, Pallof presses) teach your core to protect your back automatically
  • Glute and hamstring strength takes the load off your lower back under everyday movement

🦵 Knee Pain & Runner's Knee

  • Often comes down to weak glutes and quads, not "bad knees" - the knee is usually the symptom, not the cause
  • We start with knee-friendly, resistance-based strength work (wall sits, step-ups, controlled leg press) before any impact
  • Hip and ankle mobility work takes pressure off the knee joint itself during squats and running
  • Load and range of motion are increased gradually, tracked every session, so you know it's actually improving
Built To Protect You

Safe Core Movements, Real Life Benefits

These are some of the first movements we build back in - simple, joint-friendly, and each one carries straight over into everyday life.

🐛Dead Bug
Bending down to pick something up without your lower back taking the strain.
🐕Bird Dog
Stability through your torso when carrying shopping, kids, or awkward loads.
🔄Pallof Press
Twisting to reach for something in the back seat without your back complaining.
🍑Glute Bridge
Takes the pressure off your lower back so it stops doing your glutes' job.
🦵Wall Sits & Step-Ups
Knee-friendly strength for stairs, hills, and getting back into running pain-free.

"Artem has been amazing in helping me achieve my goals! I originally came because I needed help with my form due to a shoulder injury and hypermobility and Artem has guided me through getting the workouts right. He's helped me to gain muscle while losing fat! I'm currently down 1.5 inches on my waist and up 0.5kg in muscle mass at the same time. He's dedicated and tailors your plan to you. Highly recommended!"

Questions

Training With Pain Or An Old Injury - Your Questions

I have an old injury or ongoing pain - can I still start personal training?

In almost every case, yes. Your first session includes a full movement assessment so we know exactly what to work around, and your programme is built from there - not from a generic template.

What exercises actually help with lower back pain?

Hip hinge patterns, core bracing work (like dead bugs and bird dogs), and glute strengthening are usually where we start - they take the load off your lower back instead of asking it to do all the work.

I have knee pain or runner's knee - can I still train legs?

Yes, almost always. We start with knee-friendly, controlled strength work and build your glutes and quads up before reintroducing impact or running - most knee pain improves with the right strength work, not with avoiding the gym entirely.

Do I need to be pain-free before I start?

No - most clients start while still managing some pain or stiffness. The programme is built around that from day one and adjusted as things improve.

Will you push me even though I have an injury?

You'll be pushed appropriately - hard enough to make real progress, never in a way that risks the injury. That balance is exactly what the mobility assessment and regression-first approach are there for.
