Live in Highgate, Train in Archway: Why One Stop Is Worth It

October 11, 2026

A lot of people looking for personal training Highgate options assume they need someone on their doorstep. Highgate is beautiful, but it is hilly, leafy and mostly residential, and that shapes what kind of training space is available close to home. Sometimes the best option is not in your postcode at all, but one stop away.

I'm Artem Olekhnovych, and my private 1-to-1 studio, SYP Fitness, sits in Archway, just down the hill. Here is why so many of my Highgate clients think the short trip is worth it, and how to make it part of your week without thinking about it.

One stop, three ways to get there

The studio is at 2-4 Navigator Square, Archway, London N19 3UB, about 2 minutes' walk from Archway station. From Highgate you can:

  • Take the Northern line one stop from Highgate station to Archway (High Barnet branch).
  • Hop on the 43 or 134 bus, which both run between Highgate and Archway.
  • Walk down Highgate Hill from Highgate Village, past Waterlow Park and Lauderdale House, in roughly 15 minutes.

Because the trip is so short, it rarely becomes the excuse that stops you training. And if you choose to walk, you get a warm-up on the way in and a solid climb on the way home.

Why a private studio beats a busy gym

If you have looked at gyms in Highgate and the surrounding area, you will know the options. Big gyms have their place, but for many people they are where good intentions go to die. You queue for equipment, you feel watched, and you end up doing the same few machines every visit.

Most of the personal training Highgate residents ask me about comes down to one wish: proper coaching, in a space where they feel comfortable. A private studio removes those problems:

  • No waiting. The equipment you need is free when you need it.
  • No audience. You can learn a new lift, get it wrong and try again without anyone watching.
  • Full attention. Every session is 1-to-1, so the whole hour is spent on you.
  • Calm. It is easier to focus on technique when you are not competing with loud music and crowds.

I explain more of the reasoning in my article on choosing a private personal training studio in London.

The commute becomes part of the habit

Something interesting happens when training is a short, fixed trip rather than something you do in your living room. It becomes a ritual. You leave the house, you arrive, you train, you go home. That separation between home and training is surprisingly powerful for consistency.

Early mornings before work

Early-morning sessions are available, and they suit a lot of Highgate commuters. Archway is on the same Northern line branch you may already use to get into town, so you train, then carry on with your day. Many clients tell me the morning session sets the tone for better food choices later on.

Steps you would not otherwise get

Walking down Highgate Hill and back up adds a decent number of steps and a real climb. It is not a replacement for training, but it is a useful extra, especially if you sit at a desk all day.

Personal training Highgate clients can start with

Every new client starts with a free assessment plus a complimentary 30-minute session. From there, you choose a plan that fits your time:

  • SYP Hybrid: 4 in-person sessions a month with a tailored nutrition plan and online coaching support.
  • SYP Core: 8 in-person sessions a month with a structured programme and nutrition guidance.
  • 12-Week Transformation: 24 sessions with a 3-phase training and nutrition system, weekly check-ins and WhatsApp support.

All three include an InBody body composition scan every 4 weeks. Full details are on my personal training prices page.

Most of my clients are busy professionals over 30. Over 12 weeks, most lose 6-10kg and gain 1.2-3kg of lean muscle, measured with InBody. That is typical, not guaranteed, but it shows what consistent personal training Highgate clients commit to can achieve.

Who this suits best

If you live anywhere in N6, from Highgate Village and Pond Square to the streets off Archway Road, the trip works. It also suits people in nearby Dartmouth Park and Crouch End. If you want a trainer close to home but a better space than a crowded gym floor, this is the middle ground.

Many people comparing personal trainers in Highgate find that the travel question disappears once they make the trip once. To see how I work with local clients, read about my personal trainer in Highgate service.
