Partner Personal Training in Highgate: Train as a Couple or With a Friend

October 11, 2026

Partner personal training in Highgate is a simple idea: two people, one trainer, one session. You might be a couple who want to get fitter together, two friends who keep saying you'll start "next month", or a parent and grown-up child who want to train side by side. Done well, it gives you the coaching of a private session with the motivation of having someone next to you.

I'm Artem, and partner training is one of the options I offer at my private studio in Archway, one stop from Highgate on the Northern line. Here's how it works, who it suits and how to get the most from it.

Why train with a partner?

The biggest benefit is accountability. It's easy to cancel on yourself. It's much harder to cancel on someone who is already on their way to meet you. Couples and friends who train together tend to turn up more often, and turning up is what drives results.

It also helps outside the studio. If you live together, you're both thinking about protein, sleep and daily steps, so healthy habits at home get easier. Friends often start walking together on the days in between, whether that's a loop of Highgate Wood or a stroll across Hampstead Heath.

It makes training more enjoyable

A bit of friendly competition, a shared laugh when a set gets tough and someone to celebrate with when you hit a new best. For many people, that makes the difference between training feeling like a chore and something they look forward to.

How partner personal training in Highgate works at my studio

You train together in the same session, in a private space with no one else around. I coach you both, watching technique closely and adjusting each exercise to suit each person.

Different levels, same session

Partners are rarely at the same level, and that's fine. One of you might be stronger on lower-body lifts and the other on upper-body work. One might have an old injury to work around. I adjust weights, reps and exercise choices individually, so you each get the right challenge.

Shared structure

Sessions usually pair exercises so one person works while the other rests, which keeps things moving and means you're never just standing around. The warm-up, main lifts and finishers are planned in advance, so no time is wasted.

Partner training vs 1-to-1 and group classes

Partner training sits between full 1-to-1 coaching and group training. You get much more attention than in a class, but slightly less than training alone with me.

  • 1-to-1 suits people with specific goals, injuries to manage or who want every minute focused on them.
  • Partner training suits people who are motivated by company and have broadly similar goals, such as losing fat and getting stronger.
  • Group classes are cheaper, but coaching is spread across many people and programmes aren't individual.

Who partner training suits best

Partner personal training in Highgate works best when both people are committed and can make the same times each week. It's a good fit for couples who want a shared routine, friends who keep each other honest, and people who feel nervous about starting and would rather have someone familiar alongside them.

It's less suited to someone recovering from an injury that needs a lot of individual attention, or to two people with very different schedules. In those cases, separate 1-to-1 sessions usually work better, and you can still support each other at home.

Getting the most from training together

  1. Agree on your goals early. They don't need to be identical, but you should both be pulling in the same direction.
  2. Don't compare numbers. Compare each person against their own starting point, not against each other.
  3. Plan your weeks together. Book sessions at times you can both make, and keep them fixed.
  4. Support each other at home. Shop, cook and walk together. It's far easier than doing it alone.

Measuring progress for both of you

InBody body composition scans every 4 weeks show each person's fat and muscle changes separately. That matters for couples in particular, because bodies respond at different speeds and the scales can be misleading. Over 12 weeks, most clients typically lose 6-10kg and gain 1.2-3kg of lean muscle, though everyone's results are their own.

Getting started from Highgate

The studio is at 2-4 Navigator Square, about 2 minutes' walk from Archway station. From Highgate station it's one stop south, the 43 and 134 buses run between Highgate and Archway, and the walk down Highgate Hill from Highgate Village in N6 takes about 15 minutes. Early-morning sessions are available if you both want to train before work.

There are plenty of personal trainers in Highgate, but not all of them offer private sessions for two. You can read more about working with a personal trainer in Highgate, see my personal training prices, and ask about partner options when you book your free assessment.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need to be at the same fitness level?

No. I adjust each exercise for each person, so you can train together even if one of you is much more experienced.

Can we have different goals?

Yes, within reason. Fat loss and strength sit together well in one session. If your goals are very different, 1-to-1 may suit you better.

Do we both get an assessment?

Yes. Each of you gets a free assessment so I understand your history, any injuries and what you want to achieve.
