Personal Trainer Holloway: Private 1-to-1 Training Near N7

October 29, 2026

Searching for a personal trainer Holloway residents can fit around work usually leads straight to the chain gyms on Holloway Road, but you do not need to train in a packed gym to get proper coaching. My private studio sits at the top of the same road in Archway, a 10-15 minute bus ride from Nag's Head, so you can have a 1-to-1 session and be back home in N7 without losing your evening.

This guide is written for people who live or work around Holloway Road, Caledonian Road, Tufnell Park's southern edge and the streets around the Emirates. It covers how to get to the studio, which times work around a typical commute, what you actually do in a session, and what it costs, so you can decide whether it is worth the short trip.

What makes Holloway a hard place to stay consistent

Holloway is busy, noisy and full of people who are short on time. A lot of N7 residents are renting with flatmates, working in the City or the West End, studying at London Met, or juggling shifts at the Whittington or in local hospitality. That mix creates a few common problems:

  • Peak-time gyms. Between 6pm and 8pm the big gyms near Nag's Head are at their fullest. You wait for a rack, cut sessions short and go home annoyed.
  • No space at home. A shared flat off Holloway Road rarely has room for more than a mat, which makes home training hard to progress.
  • Match days. When Arsenal are at home, the area around Holloway Road station and Drayton Park gets crowded, buses slow down and plans fall apart.
  • Too many options, no plan. You can see five gyms on one walk down the road, but none of them gives you a programme or anyone to answer to.

If you want to compare the gym options first, I have written a separate guide to gyms near Holloway Road. This post is about the other route: working with one coach in a private space.

Getting from Holloway to the Archway studio

The studio is at 2-4 Navigator Square, N19 3UB, right next to Archway tube station. Holloway Road runs straight up to it, which makes the trip simple whichever end of N7 you live in.

  1. From Nag's Head: the 17, 43, 263 and 310 buses all head north up Holloway Road to Archway. Allow 10-15 minutes outside rush hour, a bit more at 8am or 6pm.
  2. From Holloway Road station (Piccadilly line): there is no direct tube to Archway, so jump on one of the buses above from the stops outside the station. Door to door, most people manage it in about 15-20 minutes.
  3. From Upper Holloway (Overground): the walk up Holloway Road past Whittington Park takes around 10-12 minutes.
  4. Walking or cycling: from Nag's Head it is roughly 25-30 minutes on foot, which doubles as a warm-up, or under 10 minutes on a bike.

Because you travel against the flow into town, the morning bus up Holloway Road is usually quicker than the one heading south.

Session times that fit around a Holloway commute

I specialise in busy professionals over 30, so timing matters more than anything else. Here is how sessions typically fit for people living in N7:

Before work

Train early, then take the Northern line from Archway into the City or West End. You start the day done, and nothing at work can cancel it. There is more on this in my post about training before work in Archway.

Late morning or lunch

Good for hybrid workers and shift workers. A weekday daytime session means a quiet bus ride and no queue for anything.

Early evening

Possible, but these slots go first. If evenings are your only option, book them as a fixed weekly time rather than week by week.

We agree times at your consultation, and the same slot each week is what makes the habit stick.

Why a personal trainer near Holloway beats another gym membership

A gym membership gives you access. A coach gives you a plan, feedback and someone who notices when you miss a week. In a private studio you also get the room to yourself, so there is no waiting, no music you cannot hear yourself think over, and no feeling of being watched.

In a typical session we warm up, work through two or three main strength movements such as a goblet squat, a dumbbell row and a hip hinge, add some accessory work and finish with conditioning. Everything is written down so the next session builds on it. If you have an old injury, we adapt the exercises rather than skip training altogether, and I will point you to your GP or a physio first if something needs checking.

For people who want to see their body change, the 12-Week Body Transformation adds a nutrition plan, weekly check-ins and InBody scans every 4 weeks, so progress is measured rather than guessed. Clients on that programme lose 6-16kg in 12 weeks on average and build 1.2-3kg of lean muscle, though results vary from person to person.

Want help with this? If you live in Holloway and you are tired of paying for a gym you do not use, come and see the studio first. Book a free consultation and we will look at your week, your goals and which session times actually work around your commute.

What it costs to train with me from N7

Prices are the same whichever postcode you come from:

  • Single session: £75
  • SYP Hybrid: £200 a month for 4 sessions, a good fit if you also train on your own
  • SYP Core: £300 a month for 8 sessions, so twice a week with me
  • 12-Week Body Transformation: £1,080 for 24 sessions, about £45 a session, with the price held until 31.12.26

If you are further south towards Highbury or Angel, my page on personal training for Islington and Upper Holloway covers your side of the borough, and the wider North London personal trainer page explains how clients from across the area fit sessions in. If you are not sure you want to leave home yet, the level 1 home workout is a sensible place to start.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Holloway from Archway?

Nag's Head to Archway is about 1.5 miles straight up Holloway Road. By bus on the 17, 43, 263 or 310 it usually takes 10-15 minutes, a little longer in rush hour. Walking takes around 25-30 minutes, and cycling is under 10, so it is a short trip for a weekly session.

How much does a personal trainer cost in Holloway?

Prices vary between trainers and gyms, so always ask what is included. At SYP Fitness a single session is £75, monthly packages start at £200 for 4 sessions, and the 12-Week Body Transformation works out at about £45 a session. That includes coaching in a private studio rather than a busy gym floor.

Is it better to train before or after work?

The best time is the one you can keep every week. Early sessions are rarely cancelled because work has not started yet, which suits most Holloway commuters. Evenings work if your diary is predictable. If you are unsure, try a morning slot for a month and see how your energy and sleep respond.

Do I need to be fit before working with a personal trainer?

No. Most people start out of shape, stiff from desk work or coming back after a long break. The first sessions focus on how you move, what you can do comfortably and what your goals are. If you have a medical condition, injury or take medication, speak to your GP before starting any new training.
