Personal Trainer N6: Common Questions From Highgate Clients
When people search for a personal trainer N6, they usually have a handful of very practical questions before they get in touch. Over the years I have heard the same ones again and again from people living in Highgate, so I have collected them here with straight answers.
I'm Artem Olekhnovych. I run SYP Fitness, a private 1-to-1 personal training studio at 2-4 Navigator Square in Archway, N19. It sits just outside the N6 postcode, one stop from Highgate on the Northern line.
"I live in N6. Is Archway really close enough?"
For most of Highgate, yes. You have three easy options:
- Tube: one stop from Highgate station to Archway on the Northern line (High Barnet branch). The studio is about 2 minutes' walk from Archway station.
- Bus: the 43 and 134 both run between Highgate and Archway.
- On foot: from Highgate Village, walking down Highgate Hill takes roughly 15 minutes.
If you live closer to Archway Road or the Dartmouth Park side, you may find it is even quicker. The key test is whether you can get there twice a week without it becoming a chore. For most N6 residents, it is.
"Will you come to my house instead?"
No. I only train clients in person at the studio. That is a deliberate choice. A private space with proper equipment means we can load your training gradually, which is how strength and muscle are built. Home sessions tend to stall once bodyweight exercises stop being challenging.
The studio is private and 1-to-1, so you still get the quiet and privacy many people want from a home session, without the limits.
"I'm a complete beginner. Will I feel out of place?"
This is probably the most common worry I hear from people in Highgate, especially those who have not trained since school. You will not feel out of place, because there is nobody else there to compare yourself with.
Plenty of people who search for a personal trainer N6 tell me they have joined gyms before and quietly stopped going, because they never knew what to do once they walked in. That is not a lack of willpower. It is a lack of a plan and someone to show you how.
We start with a free assessment and a complimentary 30-minute session. I look at how you move, ask about your history, and build from there. If that sounds daunting, my guide to personal training for beginners explains what the early weeks really involve.
"How does this fit around work?"
Most of my clients are busy professionals over 30, so this question matters. Early-morning sessions are available, which lets you train before work and get on with your day. Those clients often find the morning session becomes the anchor for the rest of their routine: better food choices, more steps, earlier nights.
How often you train depends on your plan. SYP Hybrid includes 4 sessions a month, SYP Core includes 8, and the 12-Week Transformation includes 24 sessions over 12 weeks. You can see what each includes on my personal training prices page.
"I already run on the Heath. Why would I need a personal trainer N6 side?"
Running in Highgate is a joy. Between Highgate Wood, Queen's Wood, Waterlow Park, the Parkland Walk and Hampstead Heath, you are spoilt for routes, and the hills make every run harder than it looks on a map. But running alone rarely builds much muscle, and many runners plateau on body composition or pick up niggles from muscle imbalances.
Strength training alongside your running helps build and maintain muscle and supports your joints on all those descents. With InBody body composition scans every 4 weeks, you can see whether you are gaining lean muscle rather than just guessing.
What results do Highgate clients usually see?
The people who get the most from working with a personal trainer N6 or anywhere else are rarely the fittest at the start. They are the ones who turn up consistently, follow the nutrition plan most of the time and tell me honestly when a week has gone off track.
I will not promise a number, because everyone is different. Over 12 weeks, most clients lose 6-10kg and gain 1.2-3kg of lean muscle, measured with InBody. SYP Fitness is rated 5.0 from 100+ Google reviews, and many of those come from people who arrived exactly as unsure as you might feel now.
If you live nearby, you might also find my post for people searching for a personal trainer in N19 useful, since that covers the Archway side of the hill. And if you are comparing personal trainers in Highgate more broadly, the page for my personal trainer in Highgate service sets out how I work and how to apply.
Frequently asked questions
Can I train with my partner?
Yes. Partner training for two people is available, which works well for couples or friends living in the same part of N6.
What if I have an old injury?
Tell me at the assessment and we will train around it sensibly. For sharp, worsening or unexplained pain, see your GP or a physio first.
Do I need to be a certain fitness level to start?
No. Sessions are 1-to-1 and built around where you are today, whether you have never lifted a weight or used to train years ago.
