Personal Trainer Hornsey: A Realistic Training Week From N8

October 29, 2026

Looking for a personal trainer Hornsey side who will actually get you results, rather than another gym fob you never use? My private studio in Archway is about 25-30 minutes from Hornsey station by bus, and plenty of people in N8 find that a short trip to a quiet 1-to-1 space works better than training on a crowded gym floor.

Instead of a list of reasons, this guide shows you what a normal week looks like if you live around Hornsey High Street, Tottenham Lane or the roads near Priory Park and train with me twice a week. Then it covers getting there, cost and what to ask before you sign up with anyone.

A realistic week with a personal trainer from Hornsey

Here is a simple example for someone working full time, maybe with children at a local primary school, who trains with me on SYP Core (8 sessions a month):

  • Monday: 1-to-1 session at the studio before work. Lower body strength, for example goblet squats, Romanian deadlifts and split squats, then a short finisher.
  • Tuesday: 30-40 minute brisk walk. A loop of Priory Park, or up to Alexandra Palace if you have more time.
  • Wednesday: rest or a short mobility routine at home.
  • Thursday: second studio session. Upper body push and pull, core work and carries.
  • Friday: walk part of the commute or the school run.
  • Weekend: one longer walk, run or family activity, plus a food shop based on your nutrition plan.

That pattern covers the UK Chief Medical Officers' guidance of at least 150 minutes of moderate activity a week and strength work on at least 2 days, without taking over your life. Walking is underrated, and my guide to the benefits of brisk walking explains why it matters so much on the days you are not lifting.

Getting to Archway from Hornsey

The studio is at 2-4 Navigator Square, N19 3UB, next to Archway tube. There is no direct train, but the buses are straightforward:

Bus 41

The 41 runs from Tottenham Lane through Crouch End Broadway and down to Archway. From the Hornsey end of Tottenham Lane, allow about 20 minutes on the bus, plus the walk to your stop.

Bus W5

The W5 links Crouch End with Archway along Hornsey Lane. Handy if you live on the western side of N8 or are already in Crouch End.

On foot or by bike

Walking from Hornsey station to Archway via Crouch End and Hornsey Lane takes roughly 40-45 minutes, so most people only do it on a nice weekend. By bike it is around 15 minutes, with a climb on the way back.

Hornsey station itself is on the Great Northern line into Finsbury Park and Moorgate, so if you work in town you can train at Archway first, then catch the Northern line in from there.

Priory Park, Ally Pally and training between sessions

Sessions with me happen in the studio, but N8 is a good place to keep moving on your own. Priory Park on Middle Lane is flat, safe and close for most of Hornsey. Alexandra Palace gives you proper hills, which are great for walking intervals: walk up briskly, recover on the way down, repeat four to six times.

I can set you simple homework that fits these spaces, so the work we do in the studio carries over into the rest of the week. If you prefer, sessions can also be shared with a partner or friend through partner personal training in Archway, which suits couples who want to train together but have different starting points.

Want help with this? If the example week above looks like something you could keep up, the next step is a short conversation about your goals, schedule and any injuries. Book a free consultation and we will work out whether twice a week, once a week or the 12-week programme suits you best.

What 1-to-1 training costs from N8

There are no extra travel or area charges. The options are:

  1. Single session, £75. Good for a one-off technique check.
  2. SYP Hybrid, £200 a month. 4 sessions, with the rest of your training done on your own.
  3. SYP Core, £300 a month. 8 sessions, the plan used in the example week.
  4. 12-Week Body Transformation, £1,080. 24 sessions, about £45 each, with a nutrition plan, weekly check-ins and InBody scans every 4 weeks. Price held until 31.12.26.

On the transformation programme, clients lose 6-16kg in 12 weeks on average and build 1.2-3kg of lean muscle. Results vary, and they depend on how well you follow the nutrition side.

Five questions to ask any personal trainer in Hornsey

Whoever you choose, ask these before paying:

  • What qualifications do you hold? Level 3 is the standard for personal trainers in the UK. I hold Level 2 and 3 and have coached for over 10 years.
  • Where exactly do sessions take place, and will it be busy?
  • How do you measure progress beyond the scales?
  • What happens if I have an injury or a medical condition?
  • Can I see real reviews from people who have trained with you?

If you live closer to the Broadway, my guide for personal training in Crouch End covers that side of N8. The personal trainer in Highgate page is also worth a look if you use Highgate or Archway Road regularly, and the North London personal training page explains how sessions work across the area.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to get from Hornsey to Archway?

Most people get from Hornsey to Archway in 25-30 minutes door to door. The 41 bus runs from Tottenham Lane through Crouch End to Archway, and the W5 connects Crouch End and Archway via Hornsey Lane. Cycling takes about 15 minutes, though the return trip has a decent hill.

Can personal training sessions take place in Priory Park?

My sessions take place in the private studio in Archway, where the equipment is set up and progress is easy to track. Priory Park is still useful though. I can set walking or light conditioning work that you can do there on your own between sessions, so your week has structure even when we are not together.

How many personal training sessions a week do I need?

Two sessions a week is a strong starting point for most people, especially if you add walking on other days. Once a week can work well if you also follow a plan on your own. If you want faster, measurable change, a structured 12-week block with nutrition support usually beats ad hoc sessions.

Is personal training suitable for complete beginners?

Yes. Beginners often get the most from it, because good habits and technique are built from the first session instead of fixed later. We start with simple movements, set weights you can control, and build gradually. If you have a health condition, are pregnant or take medication, check with your GP before starting.
