Personal Training in Archway: What a Week Looks Like

October 06, 2026

If you're thinking about personal training in Archway, the most useful thing to know is what you're actually signing up for each week. Here's how a typical week runs on our 12-week programme, step by step.

Most people picture personal training as an hour in the gym with someone counting reps. That's part of it, but it's only two hours of your week. What happens in the other 166 hours decides most of your results. Personal training in Archway with SYP is built around both: the sessions, and everything around them.

Below is a typical week on the 12-Week Body Transformation, the main programme we run from our private studio at 2-4 Navigator Square, 2 minutes' walk from Archway tube.

Two 1-to-1 sessions at Navigator Square

The backbone of the week is two one-to-one sessions. It's a private studio, so there's no queue for equipment and nobody watching you except your coach. Each session follows a plan written for you, not a template copied from someone else.

A session usually includes:

  • A warm-up that prepares the joints and muscles you're about to use.
  • The main lifts, usually compound movements like squats, hinges, presses and rows, coached rep by rep.
  • Accessory work to fill gaps, strengthen weak spots and work around any old injuries.
  • A short review of how the week is going outside the studio.

Twice a week is enough to build real strength for most busy people, and it's realistic to keep up. The programme moves through three phases over the 12 weeks, so the work gets harder as you get stronger. If you're curious how the first few weeks feel, read our guide to your first month with a personal trainer.

Your food plan

Training builds the engine, but food decides most of what happens to your body fat. You get a food plan built around the meals you already like and the way your week actually runs. No banned food lists, no extreme cutting.

The plan is there to give you structure on busy days. Most clients end up with a handful of go-to breakfasts and lunches that fit their targets, then a bit more flexibility in the evenings and at weekends. Safe, steady fat loss is the goal, and for most people that's around 0.5-1kg a week.

The daily habits tracker

Alongside training and food, you track a few simple daily habits. Things like steps, water, protein, sleep and whether you hit your food plan. It takes a minute a day.

The point isn't perfection. It's visibility. When progress slows, the tracker usually shows why. Maybe steps dropped during a busy week at work, or sleep slipped. Then we can fix the actual cause instead of guessing.

WhatsApp support and weekly check-ins

Between sessions you're not on your own. You have WhatsApp support for quick questions, such as what to order at a work dinner, or what to do if you missed a session. Once a week there's a proper check-in where we look at your numbers, your energy and how the week went.

This is where a lot of the coaching happens. Small changes made every week add up over 12 weeks. You also get access to the SYP app to keep your plan in one place.

An InBody scan every 4 weeks

Scales only tell you your total weight. Every 4 weeks you have an InBody scan, which estimates your body fat, muscle mass and how they're changing. That matters because it's common to lose fat and gain muscle at the same time, which can make the scales look slow while your body is clearly changing. Our page on InBody scans in London explains what the numbers mean.

The scans also guide the next phase. If muscle is holding steady and fat is coming down, we keep going. If not, we adjust.

What a sample week might look like

  • Monday: 1-to-1 session at the studio. Follow your food plan and tick off your habits.
  • Tuesday: a walk at lunch or after work to keep your steps up.
  • Wednesday: rest from lifting. Keep the food plan going.
  • Thursday: second 1-to-1 session. Weights go up a little if last week went well.
  • Check-in day: your weekly check-in on WhatsApp. We look at your tracker and plan the days ahead.
  • Weekend: a longer walk, some flexibility with food, and an early night on Sunday.

Your days will be different, and that's the point. We build the week around your diary, your commute and your family, not the other way round. If something big comes up, such as a work trip or a holiday, we plan for it in advance rather than writing the week off.

What a good week leads to

No single week looks dramatic. The results come from stacking ordinary, consistent weeks. Over 12 weeks our clients average 6-16kg of fat loss, 1.2-3kg of lean muscle gained and a 30%+ increase in strength. Those are averages, and results vary from person to person. You can see real stories on our client results page.

Frequently asked questions

How many personal training sessions a week do I need?

For most busy people, two 1-to-1 sessions a week is enough to build strength and lose fat, as long as food, steps and sleep are looked after in between.

What happens between personal training sessions?

On the SYP 12-week programme you follow a food plan, fill in a daily habits tracker, get WhatsApp support and have a weekly check-in with your coach.

How often do you do an InBody scan?

On the 12-Week Body Transformation you have an InBody scan every 4 weeks, so we can track fat and muscle changes, not just weight.
