Personal Trainer in Highgate: A Complete Guide for 2026
If you have typed "personal trainer Highgate" into Google, you are probably weighing up several things at once: who to trust, where you would actually train, what it costs and whether it will fit around work. This guide answers all of that in one place, written by someone who has been coaching people 1-to-1 for more than ten years.
I'm Artem Olekhnovych and I run SYP Fitness, a private personal training studio in Archway, one stop down the Northern line from Highgate. A lot of the people I train live in and around N6, so this is the guide I would give a friend in Highgate Village who asked me where to begin.
What a good personal trainer actually does
A trainer who counts your reps and tells you to push harder is not worth your money. The job is much bigger than that. When you hire someone, you should be getting:
- A plan built around you. Your age, training history, injuries, schedule and goal should shape every session, not a template handed to everyone.
- Coaching on technique. Learning to squat, hinge, push and pull properly is what keeps you training for years rather than weeks.
- Progression. Weights, reps or difficulty should rise in a planned way so your body keeps adapting.
- Nutrition support. Training alone rarely changes body shape. What you eat between sessions matters just as much.
- Measurement. You should know whether you are losing fat and keeping muscle, not just watching the scales move up and down.
- Accountability. Someone who notices when you go quiet and helps you get back on track.
This is the standard I would use to judge any of the personal trainers in Highgate or further afield, including me. If you want a deeper checklist, my article on how to choose a personal trainer walks through the questions worth asking before you commit to anyone.
Personal trainer Highgate options: where you can train
Highgate is hilly, leafy and mostly residential. That makes it a brilliant place to walk and run, but it shapes where structured training happens.
Outdoors
Highgate Wood, Queen's Wood and Waterlow Park are lovely for walking, jogging and bodyweight work, and Hampstead Heath and Parliament Hill are close by. The hills themselves are a free training tool. The limit is equipment: building real strength needs weights you can load up gradually, and the weather in a London winter does not always cooperate.
A busy commercial gym
Gyms have plenty of kit, but at peak times you may wait for a rack, train with music blaring and feel watched while you learn a new lift. For confident gym-goers that is fine. For beginners or anyone returning after a long break, it can be the reason they stop going.
A private 1-to-1 studio
This is what I offer. You get the equipment of a gym without the crowd, and the whole session is about you. Most of my clients are busy professionals over 30 who want to get in, train properly and get on with their day.
Getting from Highgate to the studio
The studio is at 2-4 Navigator Square, Archway, about 2 minutes' walk from Archway station. From Highgate station it is one stop south on the Northern line (High Barnet branch). If you prefer the bus, the 43 and 134 both run between Highgate and Archway.
From Highgate Village you can also walk straight down Highgate Hill, past Waterlow Park and Lauderdale House, in roughly 15 minutes. A few clients like walking down as a warm-up and walking back up afterwards as a bonus bit of cardio.
Early-morning sessions are available, so many people train before work and still get to the office on time. With a personal trainer Highgate clients can reach in one stop, travel rarely becomes the reason a session gets missed.
What results are realistic
Every person is different, so I never promise a number. What I can tell you is what typically happens. Over 12 weeks, most of my clients lose 6-10kg and gain 1.2-3kg of lean muscle, measured with an InBody body composition scan. Those scans happen every 4 weeks on all plans, so you see what is really changing underneath, not just your total weight.
The people who get the best results are not the most talented. They are the ones who turn up, follow the nutrition plan most of the time and tell me honestly when a week has gone badly so we can adjust.
Costs and how to get started
There are three main ways to train with me: monthly plans with 4 or 8 sessions, or a 12-Week Transformation package of 24 sessions. A single session is £75, and booking the 12-week package saves 35% compared with paying session by session. You can see the full breakdown on my personal training prices page.
Every new client starts with a free assessment plus a complimentary 30-minute session. We talk through your goals, look at how you move and agree a plan before you spend anything. If you are nervous about that first visit, read what to expect from your first personal training session. It is far more relaxed than most people imagine.

Frequently asked questions
Do you train clients at home in Highgate?
No. All sessions are in person, 1-to-1, at the private studio in Archway. Having the right equipment in a quiet space is a big part of why clients progress quickly.
Am I too unfit to start with a personal trainer?
No. Most people who walk in feel out of shape. The first sessions are built around where you are today, and we progress from there.
Can my partner train with me?
Yes. Partner training for two people is available, which suits couples or friends who want to keep each other consistent.
